B-City
Bollywood city Mumbai · a dream should come true
Including Dharavi, the biggest slum of asia side by side with the Pali Hill area. Residence of many Bollywood actors.
Dharavi is a residential area in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It has often been considered to be one of the world's largest slums. With an estimated population of about 1,000,000, Dharavi is one of the most densely populated areas in the world.
Every morning I walked from the hotel to the studio and back in the evening. And so some of the pictures are from my daily walk through the slums that are around the hotel. I didn't want to be picked up, I wanted to see how people live. And so I walked all over the city, squeezed myself into the public train and took it through Daravi on the very first day. Standing at the open train door, passing thousands of people who didn't even have a plastic sheet over their heads to call home.
The pictures were taken during the production of Lauras Star and the Dreammonsters and my visit at the local studio. It was only a few days before the rain season had begun. So everybody was waiting for rain. That it cleans up … at least a bit.
But how can the rain clean a beach , which consists only of plastic and tar? And how to survive the rainy season in a huge city without a roof over your head.
