Visual development
My job was to produce the first visual concept from the rough script – to introduce a graphical style and to design the main locations. The story was about Grimms fairytales (first volume of the first edition of Grimms ‚Kinder- und Hausmärchen‘ published 1812). Therefore, the design was influenced by and related to the epoch of the old european artists like e.g Breugel (1525/30-1569), Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1516) and Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778). More modern and at the same time fairytalish ideas are related to the architectural style of Antoni Gaudi (1852-1926). A further source of inspiration came from the ‚Hudson River School‘ of American landscape paintings – a mid-19th century movement whose asthetic vision was influenced by romanticism.
